ACCOMMODATION MAUI - NORTH SHORE
The windward side of Maui, is enjoyed for its cooling tradewinds, peaceful ambiance and rugged, natural beauty. It is a favorite of water sports enthusiasts for kite boarding, body boarding and surfing at world-renowned Jaws with its 30 foot waves. Spreckelsville, 2 miles west of Paia, is an affluent neighborhood that is part of Paia town. It adjoins wonderful beaches and offers numerous beachside vacation rentals.
Paia, a small coastal community on the north shore of Maui has retained much of its charm from the sugar plantation days. Many of its wooden plantation buildings are still intact and have been converted into colorful restaurants, surf shops, boutiques, and new-age specialty shops. Haiku is a country-style village that was once a thriving pineapple plantation with two canneries. Today, this rustic community has eateries, shops, cafes and spas. Huelo is technically considered part of Haiku, but encompasses a larger region where many local haoles live “off the grid.
